Rosemary Class

Dear Rosemary Room Parents,

Here we are, ready to welcome the next new month of 2017! This weekend also ushered in Chinese New Year--the Year of the Rooster--Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Last Friday, Rosemary children who were able to join us for Nature Day at Howe Homestead Park, enjoyed exploring the area and discovering what was growing in individual garden plots in the Community Garden, looking for treasures in the creek, running up and down "mulch mountains" and hiking a somewhat muddy trail to a majestic old oak tree that looked out over the City of Walnut Creek in the distance below it. A good time was had by all!

Gentle reminder: The next scheduled Rosemary off-campus Nature Day has been cancelled (2/17), so that the children can have their Valentine tea party in Rosemary Room that day.

Rosemary parent-teacher conferences begin this week after school. If you have not already done so, please remember to sign up for a remaining date and time (excluding tomorrow at 2:15 PM): SignUp

Thank you, parents, for signing up to provide apples and flowers for a particular week. We do have several weeks this spring, beginning with the week of February 13 where no one has yet signed up to bring in flowers and apples. Here are the weeks with no sign-ups currently: 2/13; 2/27; 3/6;  and all weeks from 4/3 until 6/5. The sign-up page for apples and flowers is located on the Rosemary page of our school website in the 'Community' section (password to access Community page is Sing2016 : SignUp

Remind your child to bring in one organic vegetable this Wednesday for our Thursday soup pot.

In order to prevent minor social misunderstandings, including upset feelings, please gently remind your child that their toys/trinkets and other sundry loved personal items from home need to stay at home or in your car. Thanks for your understanding!

Thank you Tiffany for kindly taking home and laundering our classroom towels and napkins last week. Thank you Lisa Galliani for providing flowers and apples last week. This week and next, Andrea Telfer has graciously signed up to bring in apples for our weekly snack and flowers for our room.

We look forward to a fun-filled, busy week with our darling Rosemary children!

With warmth and gratitude,

Fiona and Sarah

P.S.: Here's a song your children are singing in circle these days. Ask your child if he/she is willing to sing you a few bars...

Love is something if you give it away,
Give it away, give it away,
Love is something if you give it away,
You end up having more.
It's just like a magic penny,
Hold it tight and you won't have any,
Lend it, spend it, and you'll have so many
They'll roll all over the floor.
Oh, love is something if you give it away,
Give it away, give it away,
Love is something if you give it away,
You end up having more.

Dear Rosemary Room Parents,

We hope and trust that you and your children had a very happy winter break! We're so excited to welcome back our beautiful Rosemary Room children tomorrow. We have missed them dearly! We are also delighted to welcome our newest Rosemary Room student: Luna Schifferli!

This week is a regular week, albeit only four days long. There is rain forecast for tomorrow and likely for Wednesday. Please remember to have your child bring his/her boots and rain gear. Also, it would be really helpful if every child has two pairs of extra socks and an extra pair of shoes, which can be kept in the red clothing bag at school. If boots accidentally become wet inside, children need a clean, dry pair of shoes and clean socks to change into. Labeling your child's name in every item of their clean change of clothing is super helpful!

A few calendar dates/reminders, etc.:

  • Next Friday, January 13, 10 AM - 1:00 PM - our Nature Day is off-campus at Sugar Loaf Open Space (more information to follow in next Sunday's Snippets)
  • Parent Evening Meeting this month: Tuesday, January 10 (meet & greet @ 6;30 PM, meeting from 7:00-8:30 PM)
  • Look for a new Sign-up Genius page within the next week or so for Rosemary Room parents to sign up for February conference times with us. Please note that the conference is for parents only. You may wish to sign up your child for aftercare during your scheduled 45-minute conference time.
  • Please remind your child to bring in one organic vegetable this Wednesday for our Thursday soup pot.

Many thanks to Heidi and Jamison Gleisner, Chris and Gemma Young, Sara and Lucy Blankinship, Kevin and Ilija Repp, and Ashley and Pierce Camp for helping us move out our entire room in December in preparation for the school Winter Elves' Faire. Thank you Lisa Ehle for generously providing flowers and apples for our class for the last week of school before winter break. This week, Rachel Weyhenmeyer has graciously signed up to provide apple/orange snacks and flowers to beautify our room. Next week, Ashley Camp has signed up to bring in flowers and apples. Thank you Heidi Gleisner for making us your delicious homemade stock for our soup last month. And Ashley and Delilah Camp brought us a fresh selection of organic vegetables from the Farmer's Market each Tuesday last month. Thank you, generous parents!

We feel very blessed to have your extraordinary, delightful children in Rosemary Room this year. We look forward to greeting them tomorrow. We know they are ready for new learning adventures in this new year of 2017!

With warmth and gratitude,

Fiona and Sarah

Sunday, October 30

Dear Rosemary Room Parents,

It was such a joy to see our children dressed in their delightful costumes this past Friday evening for our Halloween Journey. We hope they had a wonderful time visiting the various characters that magically appeared on our hill! A huge thank you to Melanie Kidd and Michaela Kissinger for organizing the myriad details that go into putting on our annual, much-loved Halloween Journey. Also, a big thanks to the many Rosemary Room parents who helped make the tokens for the children, or set up/breakdown the event, and/or portray a character in a scene. It's quite an undertaking each year to bring the special scenes to life for the children.

This year's new additions to the Journey, including Mother Gaia's abode and the mermaid's underwater grotto were fantastic! Hope you, as a parent, had a chance to experience the magic!

Gentle reminder: as you know, tomorrow is the actual Halloween eve, but we will not be dressing up in costume during the day. Our circle will include some Halloween merriment, however, in honor of the occasion.

Your children are decorating their own lanterns this year. They're very proud of their work thus far. We will be adding beaded handles this week and into next week in preparation for our family Martinmas Lantern Walk through Rudgear Park and nearby streets on Thursday, November 10, 6:15-8:15 PM. Don't forget to bring your own mugs for delicious, steaming hot chocolate/cider after the walk!

Again, many thanks to Tiffany Day for providing the beautiful flowers for our room last week, and for the apples for our apple snack before tidy-up time. This week, Marcela Cerecero has graciously signed up to provide organic apples and flowers for our room. Next week, Sara Swan has signed up to bring in flowers and apples. Thank you Heidi Gleisner for making us another big jar of homemade stock for our soup last week, and for providing a delicious luncheon spread for our teachers at faculty meeting last Thursday. Also, many thanks to Ziza Repp for valiantly cleaning our room last Thursday to help Teacher Sarah and I get to the faculty meeting on time.

Remember to let your friends and neighbors know that this Tuesday evening is our Open House from 6:30-8:00 PM. Come one, come all!

We wish Teacher Sarah a safe and restful journey to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for her only brother's wedding. Many blessings to Sarah and her whole family on this memorable and joyous occasion!

Many thanks in advance to Teacher Rachel for graciously stepping in to help our children have a wonderful week while Sarah is away--although we know they will miss her dearly, each and every child.

With warmth and gratitude,

Fiona and Rachel

October 16

Scarlet and yellow, golden and brown,
Winds of October--blow the leaves down,
Tear from the branches their curtains and spread
Carpets of yellow beneath them instead.
Glistening with rain or ablaze in the sun,
Falling in showers or dropped one by one
Fluttering treasures of autumn come down
Scarlet and yellow, golden and brown

Dear Rosemary Room Parents,

Rain, glorious rain! With the rain, we welcome warm hats, rain boots, raincoats, and rain pants. Also, we invite and encourage your child to now bring simple indoor shoes/slippers from home to wear in the classroom, which can be kept at school in our indoor shoe basket through the cooler fall and winter months. As you know, we have a rug covering part of our floor, but we also have uncarpeted floor, which is chilly on bare feet.

We have our kindergarten-only parent evening this Tuesday, October 18, 7:00-8:30. We look forward to seeing you. If you happen to have Simplicity Parenting book by Kim John Payne, feel free to bring it with you; no worries if you do not have it yet.

This Wednesday, we are celebrating Pierce's sixth birthday with a birthday story circle!

As usual, please remind your child to bring one organic vegetable on Wednesday for our Thursday soup pot.

Thank you Ziza Repp for providing flowers for our room and organic apples for the children's snack last week. This week, Tiffany Day has kindly signed up to bring in apples and flowers.

We look forward to a fun-filled week full of laughter and learning with your children.

With warmth and gratitude,

Fiona and Sarah
